Symposium on Mitochondria at the School of Medicine, Westlake University

Sep 20, 2024 · Yunqi Campus, Westlake University
On September 20, 2024, the School of Medicine hosted the first meeting on Mitochondrial Structure and Function. Organized by Xiang-Dong Fu and Alexey Amunts, the symposium brought together researchers from 11 universities, with most of the participants being PhD students. Orian Shirihai from UCLA delivered the keynote lecture.

The meeting covered a broad range of mitochondrial biology topics, including biogenesis, quality control, cross-membrane transport, membrane architecture, and the dynamics of molecular machines. With a focus on unpublished results, the event encouraged collaboration between labs to formulate the next major open questions in mitochondrial biology and explore their medical applications. The cutting-edge imaging infrastructure at Westlake University will play a crucial role in addressing these questions in the future.

Doctoral students and postdocs now have the opportunity to leverage the advanced infrastructure to develop synergistic methodologies and harness valuable data. This symposium extends a series of international meetings, fostering open discussions on ongoing research at Westlake University.

We would like to sincerely thank the investigators and staff at Westlake University School of Medicine for planning and organizing the event, and also extend our thanks to all the participants, without whom this fantastic event would not have been possible.
